Sky City

Specializing in residential architecture with a keen sense of design and conceptual thought, SKY CITY ARCHITECTS was established in 2014 by professional architect Philip du Toit. By investigating alternative and out-of-the-box concepts, his designs question and push the limits to find ideal solutions.

Bespoke residential architecture, ranging from individual homes to developments and apartment blocks, have always been Philip’s focus, even though he has worked on schools, clinics, refurbishments and conceptual designs of various building types. He has been involved in all stages of the building process, from detail design to project management and technical detailing. Throughout his career he has received numerous awards, including the Johann Basson Energy Efficient Design Prize for his Masters thesis being selected as the most energy efficient design.

Besides his work on buildings, he has also been involved in academic activities, including articles and books. He presented the theory of 'three-dimensional sites' at the International Union of Architects World Congress in Durban in 2014 and acts as external examiner for the Tshwane University of Technology on an ad hoc basis. A recent study involves creating abstract artworks from memories (read about it at https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/palimpsest-philip-du-toit).
